City Hosting Focus Groups, Survey to Inform DEI Strategies

Graphic with signup details

April 1, 2022 — The City of Wilsonville’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is seeking community members to participate in focus groups and/or complete a short survey that will inform the City’s DEI Strategic Plan.

The DEI Committee is seeking to identify and establish strategies that are directly informed by the experiences of people of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions, abilities and cultural communities within Wilsonville.

These focus groups allow people to share unique and candid perspectives about life in Wilsonville that will help the Committee identify where systemic barriers to inclusion may exist within the community, and what can be done to make programs, policies and events more inclusive and equitable.

Each 90-minute session will include 8-10 people and will be held virtually, via Zoom. Moderators will ask a series of short questions to initiate discussion from participants. Participant rolls are to remain confidential.

Focus Group Sessions:
Wednesday, April 13              6-7:30 pm
Saturday, April 16                    1-2:30 pm

Additional Sessions (Added on April 12):
Wednesday, May 4                  5:30 - 7pm
Thursday, May 5                        5:30 - 7pm

Community members who are unable to participate in a focus group, and who have an interest in sharing their perspectives with the committee, are invited to complete our online survey by May 5 to further inform the Committee’s work.

The DEI Committee invites everyone to share this opportunity with friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, and within their communities. The Strategic Plan is to include insights and strategies that identify barriers to inclusion and adjust existing practices in support of more equitable outcomes.

Wilsonville’s DEI Committee was established at the direction of the Wilsonville City Council in January 2021. Its 13 members serve as a direct liaison between the community and City Hall, amplifying the voices and addressing the needs of people traditionally under-represented or excluded in government.

The Committee’s work is being guided by consultant Bill de la Cruz, who has worked extensively with several local municipalities to identify structural barriers and yield more inclusive cities.
